The inaugural edition of the Celtic Classic marks the first of two events to be held at The Celtic Manor Resort as the UK Swing continues. This is a timely stop as it marks the 10th anniversary of Europe’s dramatic 14½-13½ victory against the United States in The 2010 Ryder Cup at the same venue!
Requiring high flighted/ soft landing approach with their second shots on Par 5’s, players have been requesting SIM Fairways and Rescues. Looking to capitalise on the four Par 5’s, Team TaylorMade’s long hitters Nicolai Højgaard, Gavin Green and Kurt Kitayama have all been dialing in their 5woods and looking at a hybrid option.
Gavin Green’s 168mph ball speed makes him one of the longest drivers on Tour. He’s got a very specific ball flight where he likes to see the ball falling right with every club in his bag and whilst out on the range, he noticed he wasn't seeing what he wanted. At his speed margins his clubs need to be precise and the team noticed that lofts and lies had all moved 0,5-1,5 upright. After the adjustments were made, Gavin took to the course with great feedback.
New for this week, Gavin will play a SIM Max Fairway with a heavier shaft for more control, he feels with his length he can really take advantage of the Par 5’s and his 5wood will be a key weapon in his bag, especially if the course gets wet as is forecast!
Paul McGinley arrived at the Celtic Classic and went straight to work on the range. With a new SIM Max 19 and 22 Rescue in the bag he’s excited to be competing again and we can’t wait to watch him out on the course!
After another great performance last week, Nicolai Hojgaard caught up with the team as he wanted to know about the all-new P7MB irons as he couldn't wait to hit them. Tour Representative Mark Thistleton built up a 4,6 & 8 iron and Nicolai took them out on the course and gave instant feedback!
“He took them on the course and after 3 holes messaged me saying ‘Mark, please build up the rest of the set these are so good I am putting them in this week!’ So that’s always very satisfying to hear when new product is instantly making an impact like that with these world class players who really know what they want.” - Mark Thistleton
Like all of us, when we first saw the new P Series line up, we just wanted to be able to hit them. Once Nicolai asked to put them in play, Mark worked with him on the range and you could hear the players talking about the irons. After his fitting session there were a few more orders on the books.
As we move 395-miles north to The Renaissance Club, Charley Hull is hoping to build on her Rose Ladies Series success as she returns to LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour action at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open.
"It was nice to play the Rose Ladies Series events, and just a good warm-up for the season, the last few weeks I've been hitting it really well and I'm just looking forward to playing.” - Charley Hull
Early in July, Charley Hull was spotted with our new P7MB irons, just pipping Rory McIlroy to the big reveal by gaming them a week prior to their first outing on the PGA Tour. Whilst we couldn't divulge any information at the time, we can now share with you the details of her fitting as she takes P7MB to the links.
