Earlier this year, TaylorMade announced the launch of the new M5 & M6 drivers with Speed Injected Twist Face, which are set to hit golf shops on February 1st. Like the release of next-gen iPhones and new-and-improved car models, the 2019 M Family of Drivers takes many of the successes of last year’s M3 & M4 and builds upon them with new technologies, features, and benefits to take performance to the next level.
But what is the difference between M5 and M6?
To showcase the key differences between each driver and help you choose the best driver for your game, we will breakdown a side-by-side model comparison to highlight the key differences between new M5 and M6 drivers. Further down the page, you will also see how our 2019 products improve upon last year's models with new technologies and enhanced features.

At address, it is clear that M5 driver and M6 driver belong in the same "family." Both feature the new matte black carbon composite crown. Both have a thinner two-tone crown alignment. Both feature blood orange color pops framing the back of each head.
Take a look at the face, and they are truly identical. Immediately you'll notice the same Twist Face logo from our 2018 drivers located up toward the toe. However, the true standout feature of this year's driver is marked by the blood orange Tuning Ports located at the extreme low-heel and low-toe. These are the entry points for Speed Injected technology to calibrate every head to the maximum legal limit of ball speed.
But it's not until you take a look at the sole of each club that the true differences begin to stand out. And like the difference between the "even M drivers" and "odd M drivers" from previous generations, the primary difference between M5 and M6 is adjustability.
While both drivers benefit from a Hammerhead 2,0 slot (to create a massive sweet spot that enhances ball speed and forgiveness), an adjustable Loft Sleeve (with +/- 2° of loft change), M5 driver includes the additional adjustability of the new Inverted T-Track.
The redesigned Inverted T-Track includes two 10g movable weights that can be positioned to increase MOI (forgiveness) and dial in your optimal launch conditions (high-to-low bias and left-to-right bias) and spin characteristics. This allows the golfer to completely personalize the performance of their M5 driver to their preferences. If you need lower spin, you can get lower spin with M5 than you can with M6. Additionally, this enables the club to "adapt" as your swing changes over time.
On the M6 side of things, the primary differentiator is an emphasis on forgiveness. Most notably, new lightweight carbon composite sole panels have been incorporated into the design, creating more discretionary weight to help enable M6's aerodynamic Inertia Generator. With 46 grams of mass housed within the Inertia Generator, it works to increase MOI and lower CG to create more forgiveness with higher launch and lower spin.
Choose M5 driver... if you like to tinker with your driver settings or need lower spin. M5 driver offers a lot of freedom in terms of personalizing launch conditions and performance—you can set the driver weights forward for low spin or all way back and to the perimeter for max forgiveness (and everything in between). As mentioned above, this can be particularly useful if you are in the midst of a swing change. On a daily basis, you could also make subtle Inverted T-Track modifications on the range before you tee off, based on how you're swinging it that day.
Choose M6 driver... if you want maximum forgiveness and simplicity. While Inverted T-Track adjustability is attractive to some, there are many golfers who are more "set it and forget it." With M6, every technology works to deliver forgiveness in one way or another. While forgiveness is the focus, don't let this dissuade you if you consider yourself a great player..

Choose M5 Tour driver... if you prefer a more compact address shape. At 435cc, the smaller shape of M5 Tour also provides the ultimate in low-spin performance.
Choose M6 D-Type if... you are a player who historically battles a slice. Designed with a heavy draw-bias, M6 D-Type is engineered to minimize your slice and help you achieve the draw you've always dreamed of hitting off the tee.
