Wedge design and artisanship go hand-in-hand. Looks, shaping and weight are pivotal – because as much as a wedge must perform, it must also look right and feel right to the individual golfer.
Milled Grind 3 wedges take all of that into account. TaylorMade’s Greg Cesario, one of the lead designers on the project, has a long history of club building and design – dating back to his childhood. He was regripping his own clubs at age 10 and grinding wedges by 12. He’s brought his more than 40 years of golf equipment knowhow to the look and feel of these wedges by incorporating a straighter leading edge, squarer toe and classically nuanced shaping.
For him, MG3 wedges are all about the blend of tradition and technology.

While the look is classic, you’ll find a breakthrough technology if you choose to look closer. In addition to the RAW Face that’s become a staple of the Milled Grind franchise, all MG3 wedges include a new Raised Micro-Rib design. Tiny ribs (0.02mm tall and .25mm wide) span the entire face and sit between the traditional grooves. They create an abrasive and textured surface area that improves the interaction between clubface and ball on finesse shots around the ground.
This design also adds the documented benefits of RAW Face Technology, which helps reduce spin fluctuation due to wet conditions. When the ball or the clubface is wet, the ball wants to slide up the clubface at impact – reducing the amount of friction between the two surfaces. It effectively reduces spin by a high rate. In conjunction with the Micro-Ribs, the RAW material minimalizes the loss of spin, helping to deliver more precise wedge shots in those situations – particularly on partial shots around the green.
In examining every component of wedge design during the development of MG3, engineers made a special effort to improve sound and launch. While seemingly unrelated, improvements to both were achieved by altering the Thick-Thin Design of MG3. CG locations are optimized for loft. Translation? These wedges are designed to encourage lower launch with increased spin (i.e., the higher the loft, the higher the CG). At the same time, they delivered better sound and feel responses during player testing.
Each leading edge and sole grind are individually CNC milled for unparalleled accuracy and consistency from club to club and grind to grind. Player-inspired alterations to the sole and bounce offerings for MG3 wedges include:
• Low Bounce (LB) – The new LB sole geometry promotes a smoother entry and exit of the club through the turf. The leading edge sits closer to the ground and has less tendency to catch upon entry, while a slight increase in camber will help the club glide through the turf with less resistance. Added trail edge relief delivers versatility when opening the face up to hit finesse shots around the ground.
• Standard Bounce (SB) – With a slightly wider sole than on MG2, the SB sole geometry is geared towards increased playability and forgiveness on various shots. Added trail edge relief delivers versatility when opening the face up to hit finesse shots around the ground.
• High Bounce (HB) – The HB sole geometry is designed to help players with a steep attack angle or those who play in softer conditions. Like the SB, the sole is slightly wider than MG2 and has increased camber for smoother turf interaction. Added trail edge relief delivers versatility when opening the face up to hit finesse shots around the ground.
