Believe it or not, there was a time when nerds weren't cool. Before self-driving cars, all AI everything and universities that doled out scholarships for Esports prowess.

Even way back then, there existed a special group of individuals: The golf nerds. Those who marveled at spin rates, swing planes and dynamic loft without the use of advanced launch monitors. They embraced the math of the game and respected the fact that golf wasn't always a 1+1=2 kind of sport. They understood how a negative attack angle could produce a positive result. They knew being zeroed out, was one in a million.

At TaylorMade we've always been golf nerds, the difference is we were cool way before it was cool.

Armed with math and science, long ago we embarked on a quest to create a driver that would redefine forgiveness. Le résultat ? The Qi10 Max, a driver that achieves the highest moment of inertia (MOI) ever calculated in a TaylorMade driver – 10 000 g-cm².

The equation for how we got there revolves around a combination of two axes, each with its own significance related to the driver's performance. Both the vertical axis from crown to sole (z-z) and the horizontal axis from heel to toe (x-x) play vital roles in minimizing mis-hits – whether it's topped, thinned or struck on the heel/toe.

When these two axes combine, like the rings of Captain Planet’s Planteteers, a total MOI of 10 000 is created.

What this ultimately translates to for you, the golfer, is that forgiveness is measured in two ways:

  1. From heel to toe (horizontal). Can you reduce negative results on the high spin heel strike or the low spin toe-hook.
  2. From high face to low face (vertical). Can you reduce negative results on the low launch/high spin strikes below center and on the high launch/low spin strikes above center.

Just like you can see the results of those bad strikes on a launch monitor (spin rates and launch angles don’t lie), you can also measure a club’s ability to counteract those undesirable hits. The sum of a club’s measured stability on horizontal mis-hits and vertical mis-hits is…dun dun duuunnn… it’s total MOI.

Qi10 Max has a combined MOI of more than 10K when you add up its vertical and horizontal axes. Well done engineers. Well done, indeed.

Now that we understand the numbers, for the most part, let’s get into how we actually did it. There are three technologies that collaborate to achieve this game changing number:

  • Advanced Construction with Infinity Crown: The Infinity Crown, coupled with a composite ring, carbon face and carbon sole, allows the redistribution of mass to key locations. This clever construction balances the deep center of gravity (CG) needed for high inertia with the need for optimal launch conditions.
  • Optimized Head Shape: The Qi10 Max introduces a groundbreaking head shape, expanding the front-to-back dimension to its limits. This unique profile enables the placement of a concentrated mass farthest from the CG, significantly enhancing the driver's inertia and overall forgiveness.
  • Carbon Face Technology: The third generation of 60X Carbon Twist Face works in harmony to create the clubhead's high inertia. This technology, which unlocked a new frontier for weight savings by removing weight from the face, lets us move even more weight low and back, while maintaining an ultra-fast sweet spot and even more forgiveness on off-center strikes.

But how did we measure the effectiveness of this high-inertia creation? Like most tech these days, it’s about a blend of robots and humans. In both machine and player testing, 10K performance did exactly what it was designed to do – uphold clubhead stability through impact and preserve ball speed by resisting twists on off-center strikes.

Who's it for? The 10K forgiveness of Qi10 Max can benefit players of all skill levels, from the everyday golfer to major champions like Team TaylorMade’s Nelly Korda and Collin Morikawa, who have both gamed the club in competition.
