When we started designing the next generation of game improvement irons, we asked ourselves a simple question: How can we deliver a game improvement iron that checks all the boxes for performance, feel and design? The answer became clear through thousands of hours of research, testing, and feedback from golfers like you. Today, we’re proud to introduce Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons—our most complete game improvement irons.
“Golfers in the game improvement category today are demanding more from their irons than just distance and forgiveness; they want irons that sound, feel and look great as well. That’s why we’ve designed both Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons to be the most complete game improvement irons we’ve ever made. From individual face optimization to revolutionary internal structures, Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons check all the boxes in the game improvement category.”Matt Bovee, Director of Product Category, Wedges and Irons
Game improvement irons have always been about helping golfers hit straighter, longer shots. But the category has evolved. Golfers told us they want more than performance—they want irons that look aspirational, feel incredible, and sound pure. So, we set out to create irons that meet all the criteria: distance, forgiveness, feel, sound, and aesthetics.
We surveyed over 11,000 golfers, and you told us feel matters. So, we obsessed over it. . .
Here’s something you might not know: A lot of what golfers perceive as feel is related to the sound the clubface makes with the ball at impact.
Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons feature a sound stabilization bar that connects the back bar to the top line, reducing unwanted vibration and creating a more solid feeling—and sounding—strike. The addition of the sound stabilization bar also allowed us to expand the use of our ECHO® Damping System material higher up in the face to reduce vibration and ultimately produce a more appealing sound. Every swing feels powerful, every strike sounds pure.
Distance is a given in this category, but accuracy matters, too. Through extensive testing, we discovered something surprising: most game improvement irons flex more on the toe at impact, creating unwanted fade bias. That means too many shots leaking right for right-handed players and left for left-handed players.
So, we engineered Qi Max and Qi Max HL faces to flex in unison, reducing cut spin and helping your shots stay online. It’s distance with precision—because straighter is better.
Two Shapes, One Goal
Every golfer has a preference when it comes to the shaping of their irons, so we designed two distinct profiles:
- Qi Max Irons: Sleeker, more compact, with a thinner top line and reduced offset for those who want a players-inspired look.
- Qi Max HL Irons: Larger profile, thicker top line, more offset for golfers that find confidence in a head with a lot of surface area and mass.
Both models share the same DNA: confidence-inspiring performance, optimized sound and feel, and technology that works for your game.
Which One Should You Choose?
- Qi Max Irons are for golfers who want distance and forgiveness without sacrificing a clean, aspirational look. If you like a thinner top line and less offset but still need help on off-center strikes, this is your iron.
- Qi Max HL irons have 3° weaker lofts than Qi Max and a larger overall profile. These irons are the perfect choice for golfers with moderate to slower swing speeds who could benefit from hitting the ball higher and stopping it more quickly on the green.
WHAT ABOUT COMBO SETS?
There's no hard and fast rule that says you can't play a combo set of clubs, so why not take full advantage? Blending the feel and forgiveness of Qi Max and Qi Max HL irons with the distance, high launch, and versatility of Qi4D Max and Qi4D Max hybrids might be just what you need to take your game to the next level.
Utilizing multimaterial construction, optimized CG locations and ultimate adjustability, Qi4D Max and Qi4D Max Lite hybrids are the ultimate long-iron replacement. To learn more, check out our Qi4d hybrids deep dive article (INSERT LINK TO fairway woods/hybrids comparison article).
