Tommy Fleetwood seems to be flourishing in his new position inside the top 5 on the OWGR. Starting the final round two shots back Tommy Fleetwood slotted in four straight birdies, the first being on the seventh hole, to top the leaderboard.
Tommy continued his cool from that point forward going on to win the DP World Indian Championship at Delhi GG by two shots over fellow Team TaylorMade athlete Keita Nakajima with rounds of 68 – 64 – 69 – 65 mark his eighth global win.
Tommy is as exacting as they come when it comes to his gear and preparation. During an in-depth putting session with his coach in 2021, they discovered his previous alignment aid (the widely used thin Sharpie line along a white golf ball) was causing fractional misalignments for Tommy. At times he felt like he was pointed directly at his target, but there was a slight variance in “feel vs. real” that could show up at critical moments during competition.
This discovery first pushed Fleetwood to start using pix™ as a practice aid. He drew a thick Sharpie line in the middle of the Clear Path Alignment to further enhance alignment and feedback on the roll. This marks the third win on the DP World Tour with pix and the fourth globally.
“You hit different shots at different times…sometimes you want to float one up, sometimes you want to penetrate the wind and sometimes you want it to hold its line in a cross wind. The ability of TP5x to do all those things at different times, the stability of it and how it holds its line makes the TaylorMade ball the best ball I’ve hit and seen perform in the wind.”- Tommy Fleetwood
Since his switch to a spider Tommy has broken through on the PGA Tour with success at the TOUR Championship, where he led the field in Strokes Gained: Putting at +8.14 and Putts Per GIR at 1.53.
The switch to a Spider Tour came from his desire to try and correct for his tendency to aim slightly left and arrive at impact with a closed face. A flatter Spider Tour allowed him to get his hands lower at address and create a natural face opening and arc back into his stroke. With an eye for the micro-milled alignment aid on the zero-torque putter, Tommy asked our PGA Tour putter rep, James Holley, to recreate the milled sight line on his Spider Tour, which was done with a ruler, a sharpie and a very keen eye.
"The fact that I now have a nice big line projecting to help me line up behind the ball, I just have to pick my line, walk in and set the putter up on that line and my decision's made. I think that sometimes you stand over the putt, and you are adjusting all the time because it doesn't feel right. Having something on the top of the putter has actually really made a difference to my routine as well."- Tommy Fleetwood

"I haven’t had a three wood in my bag in three years and the mini has been a staple part of my bag. Most of the time it’s going to be a club that I hit off the tee hitting 280 an off the deck, the head is not as shallow as a three wood so I’m going to catch it a little bit more off the bottom, but the mini driver still holds its spin and still launches high enough. For me, it’s actually as good or even better than off the tee."- Tommy Fleetwood
