At TaylorMade Golf, we’re always inspired by athletes who bring their passion and dedication into everything they do. Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Aston Villa Women’s star striker Rachel Daly to one of our fitting experiences, where she shared her story of discovering golf and more.
“I’ve never been a hand-eye type of person,” Rachel admits with a laugh. “Football has always been my world.” But a holiday in Portugal changed everything. Staying at a villa on a golf course, Rachel found herself drawn to the game. “I thought, that looks fun! I’d been to the driving range before, but this summer I really wanted to get good at it. I wanted to get out on the course and just switch off. Shut off a little bit—and get mad at something that isn’t football!”
For Rachel, golf offers a refreshing escape and a new kind of challenge. It’s not just about competition—it’s about peace, focus, and fun.
Coming into her TaylorMade fitting, Rachel was candid about her nerves. “When you’ve excelled in your own sport, you know what it feels like to be good. So, stepping into something new is daunting,” she said. “And having people watch—it’s intimidating. Even on the course, if someone comes up behind us, I’m always saying, ‘Please play through!’”
But those nerves quickly turned into excitement. “I didn’t know what to expect, but it’s been so cool to see how a golf club can actually help your game. I thought it was one-size-fits-all, but hitting different clubs and seeing the difference—it’s blown my mind.”
Rachel was especially impressed with the Kalea Gold range. “My previous set was just something I bought off the shelf. But hitting Kalea Gold, I can feel the difference. Having them fit to me—I can’t wait to get out on the course.”
When asked about her first goal in golf, Rachel didn’t hesitate: “Consistency. Coming into today, my driver was always going right. I was nervous about even pulling it out of my bag. But hitting a few today has really helped my confidence.”
She’s already making smart choices on the course. “When I’ve played before, I’ve been a bit fearful—so I’ve teed off with an iron. But now, I’m excited to see what I can do with the right driver.”
While football remains her main focus, Rachel is excited to grow her golf game alongside her professional career. “Golf is something I want to keep building into my life. It’s a great way to unwind and challenge myself in a totally different way.”
