Team TaylorMade is off to a hot start at the TOUR Championship. At the conclusion of the first round, all five Team TaylorMade athletes sit inside the top-12.
In what comes as no surprise, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler fired a first round 63 to sit two back of the lead. Scottie gained 2.75 strokes on the greens (4th) in the first round with his Spider Tour X L-Neck. He also ranks top-five in SG: Off the Tee, SG: Total, Driving Accuracy, Greens in Regulation, Scrambling and Feet of Putts made.
Collin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood are T3 after both posting a 64 and sit three back of the lead. Both Collin and Tommy posted a strong putting rounds gaining 2.77 (3rd) and 1.88 (6th) strokes on the greens respectively.
Rory McIlroy is T8 at four-under finishing second in SG: Off the Tee (1.19) and fifth in SG: Approach to Green (1.327) with his TP5 golf ball.
Jacob Bridgeman led the field in SG: Approach at 2.34 with his P·770 and P·7CB irons and is T12 after a 3-under first round.
TAYLORMADE PUTTERS LEAD THE WAY
At the TOUR Championship, TaylorMade has the most putters in play with 10 of 30 players in the field wielding a TM putter. Nine of those putters are Spiders, which have accounted for 12 wins in 2025.
Below is the putter set up for Team TaylorMade:
- Scottie Scheffler: Spider Tour X L-Neck
- Rory McIlroy: Spider Tour X Short Slant
- Tommy Fleetwood: Spider Tour Black Short Slant
- Collin Morikawa: TP Soto L-Neck
- Jacob Bridgeman: Spider Tour V L-Neck
The two winningest putters on the PGA TOUR this year are Scottie and Rory’s Spider Tour X putters…so, let’s compare them.

"Rory's Spider Tour X has 30° of toe hang and a flatter lie angle compared to Scottie's. This helps give Rory more face rotation and arc through the stroke. Rory likes the putter to open on the backswing so he can close it on the downswing which makes the short slant a good match up for his moderate stroke arc. On the other hand, Scottie's L-Neck has 21° of toe hang and is more upright. The lower degree of toe hang opens the putter slightly matching it up perfectly with his right hand claw grip and more neutral stroke arc."James Holley, TaylorMade Tour Representative
As we mentioned above, Tommy Fleetwood is rolling it better than the entire field at East Lake. He leads the field in Putts Per GIR (1.50) and is averaging just over 121-feet of made putts per round.

ARE THESE WEAR MARKS ANY GOOD?
Everybody loves a good wear mark…I know I do. My favorite thing to do when I walk the driving range at a PGA TOUR event is to peek into the bags of the best players in the world and see what hitting the ball consistently in the center of the face looks like. How good are these?!?
With the majority of these wear marks coming on fairway woods, it’s a good time to tell you that 30 of the 51 fairway woods in play at the TOUR Championship are TaylorMade!
IN HAND LOOKS AT TEAM TAYLORMADE’S WITB
We spent extensive time this week inside the tour truck and on the practice facility to get an in hand look at the equipment Team TaylorMade has in the bag this week at East Lake. The TOUR Championship always serves as a good week to make one last final tune up to the athletes’ equipment.
Each Team TaylorMade athlete brought their bag to the tour truck for a final loft and lie tune up. As per yearly tradition, our Tour team replaced the grips on all of Rory’s clubs (besides putter) before his practice began on Tuesday.
Additionally, Collin reverted back to Golf Pride Z Cord grip that he won all of his tournaments and majors with. On Monday, looking for better feel with his irons, Collin asked our tour team to build up a few irons with his prior grip set up and immediately felt more comfortable with his Z Cord grips compared to his Tour Velvet. Feel is real!!
