Actualités du Tour

Scottie Scheffler entered the final round of the British Open with a four-shot lead which he wouldn't relinquish on the way to his second major title of 2025. A birdie on the first hole of final round set the tone, and was followed by three more on the front nine, and ultimately a round of 3-under, 68 to complete his victory in Portrush, Northern Ireland. Scottie posted rounds of 68-64-67-68 for a total of 17-under, four shots clear of second place.

The win gives him a fourth career major and is his 13th victory worldwide since switching to his Spider Tour X putter, including a gold medal since the start of 2024. He's now completed three legs of the Career Grand Slam. With the victory, he's also just the 31st player in history with four or more major titles to his credit. The win also marks the 10th consecutive time Scheffler has converted a 54-hole lead into a win.

Stick with me as we dive a little deeper into the historic win.

SCOTTIE'S SPIDER PROWESS

We've written plenty about Scottie's wins over the last 12 months, and continually highlight his tee-to-green performance. And while his predictable full-swing aptitude was on full-display this week at the British Open, it was his performance on the windswept, undulating links greens that stood out even more. If there was a Boss of the Moss this week, his name was Scottie Scheffler. For the week, Scottie's putting stats speak for themselves:

WHY SCOTTIE SWITCHED TO SPIDER TOUR X

Since switching to the Spider Tour X at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational, Scottie has won 13 times, including three majors and a gold medal. TaylorMade Senior PGA TOUR Manager, Adrien Rietveld and Scottie explain the reasoning behind the switch below.

“In testing at the end of 2023, we identified something that could help him know he was striking the ball on the center of the face. Instead of the sight dot he had on his blade, we started to reintroduce True Path and we were on to something in terms of his eyes and what he thought he was doing versus what he was actually doing when hitting his putts. With a Spider putter there’s so much tech that you can see and also not see, all helping him hit better putts more often.”

SCCOTTIE'S PRECISION IRON PLAY

Links golf is unpredictable due to ever changing weather, quirky bounces, and firm conditions. That being said, Scottie's precision with his P·7TW irons was nothing short of spectacular.

The story of how he decided to put P·7TW irons in his bag is pretty compelling. He was playing P·730 irons during the final of the 2020 Masters alongside Tiger Woods. Inspired by Woods' iron play, he wanted to try P·7TW irons for himself. After a testing session back home in Dallas gave him next-level playability without sacrificing distance, Scheffler put the P·7TW’s in the bag.

“What I noticed when I hit them at home was, I was able to hit different windows. So when I flighted it down, I could pitch it lower than I could the P·730,” he said. “When I wanted to hit it up, I could hit it higher and I saw more variability in the shots and then the distance control was basically the exact same. I saw the benefits of being able to flight it down and keep it flatter and not have that overspin with a little bit more variety.”
