By now, you’ve probably had time to unlock another level of performance with your Qi35 driver and fairway woods. Hopefully, you’re experiencing more distance from more of the face, and you’ve added a layer of forgiveness at the same time.
In this article we’re going to team up with Chris Trott to show you how you can use the loft sleeves on your Qi35 metalwoods to optimize your performance even more.
USING THE LOFT SLEEVE TO OPTIMIZE YOUR QI35 METALWOODS
As you can see in the chart below, loft sleeves allow you to adjust loft by up to two degrees either stronger or weaker, and the lie angle can move up to four degrees toward upright from standard with the simple twist of a TaylorMade wrench.
INCREASING LOFT FROM THE STANDARD SETTING
- Increasing loft by one notch (0.75°) closes the face by 1.5°
- Increasing loft by two notches (1.5°) closes the face by 3.0°
- Increasing loft by three notches (2.0°) closes the face by 4.0°
DECREASING LOFT FROM THE STANDARD SETTING
- Decreasing loft by one notch (0.75°) opens the face by 1.5°
- Decreasing loft by two notches (1.5°) opens the face by 3.0°
- Decreasing loft by three notches (2.0°) opens the face by 4.0°
As Trottie explains, adjusting your loft sleeve to a higher setting is not only going to increase spin and the height of your shots, it’s also going to set the clubface in a slightly closed position at address. If you have a tendency to lose your shots to the right (for a right-handed golfer), increasing loft may very well help you keep your long shots more online.
Conversely, if you’re looking for less spin and want to lower your ball flight, setting the loft sleeve to a lower setting will bring down shot height. However, decreasing loft also opens the face at address and you may see a little more left-to-right movement (for a right-handed golfer) in your shots.
Lastly, you’ll notice a blank space on the top section of your loft sleeve that aligns with the letters UPRT LIE (upright lie). If you adjust your loft sleeve to this setting, you’re making the lie angle (or face plane tilt) more upright. This setting will affect your start line. Here again, if you struggle losing shots to the right (for a right-handed golfer), the slightly upright setting will help move your start line farther to the left.
“The inclusion of loft sleeves in Qi35 metalwoods adds a level of customization and adjustability to the top end of the bag for golfers of all abilities. The ability to change loft and lie angle settings on the fly with the simple turn of a wrench represents a major technological advancement that allows golfers to further dial in their equipment and have more fun out on the course.”Matthew Simone, Director of Product Category - Custom
